Building Safety Division

The Building Safety Division is responsible for a wide range of functions related to community change, enhancement and preservation. The Building Safety Division reviews all development applications to ensure consistency with community standards and protection of public safety and health; and ensures that projects are designed and constructed to meet community needs and are in conformance with all applicable codes.

The Building Safety Division strives to provide vision and leadership within the context of innovative, high quality, equitable and efficient services which encompass and reflect community values.

About Inspections

Building Inspection requests must be submitted by 3:00 PM the business day prior to an inspection. AM/PM requests are not guaranteed. Inspection 2-hour windows will be provided after 5 pm the working day prior, please call 707-746-4235 for a list of recorded times.

Inspection Requests

Schedule through the permit record in the Permit Center or email buildingsafety@ci.benicia.ca.us.

Please provide the permit number, inspection type and the site contact person's name and phone number.

9/80 Closures

The City of Benicia City Hall offices are closed every other Friday. During these closure days there will be no building inspections. Inspections requested on a 9/80 closure day will be scheduled for the following Tuesday. Click here to view the 2024 office closure days.

PERMITTING SERVICES

Please apply for a permit application on our online permit portal at ci.benicia.ca.us/permitting. Please note:

Submittals for a large project (e.g. a commercial tenant improvement or new residence) require an application along with all supporting documentation (such as Structural Calculations, Title 24 Energy, soils reports) and a completed submittal checklist. Plan review for such projects is 10-20 working days.
Initial plan review fees cover the 1^st plan review and 1^st recheck. 3^rd and subsequent reviews, and deferred submittals are charged according to the Master Fee Schedule .
The Building Safety Division accepts submittals through our online permit center. Email submittals are not accepted.
